Wheel Bearing Replacement Cost & Pricing

Replace a worn or failed wheel bearing hub assembly that allows the wheel to spin smoothly. A bad bearing causes a humming, growling, or grinding noise that changes with vehicle speed.

Typical Wheel Bearing Replacement cost

$220–$880, with an average estimate of $480 before vehicle-specific adjustments.

What to expect

Difficulty: moderate. Typical labor time: 1–4 hours.

Mechanic's tip

The classic test: drive at highway speed and swerve gently side to side — if the noise changes, it's almost certainly a wheel bearing. The noise typically gets louder as the bearing wears. Front bearings on FWD cars take more abuse since they also serve as CV joints. Never ignore a bad bearing — a completely failed bearing can cause wheel separation.
