Spark Plug Wire Set Replacement Cost & Pricing

Replace the high-voltage ignition wires that carry spark from the distributor or ignition coil to each spark plug. Worn wires cause misfires, rough idle, poor fuel economy, and difficulty starting in wet weather.

Typical Spark Plug Wire Set Replacement cost

$80–$300, with an average estimate of $160 before vehicle-specific adjustments.

What to expect

Difficulty: easy. Typical labor time: 0.5–2 hours.

Mechanic's tip

Spark plug wires are typically only found on older vehicles (pre-2000s) or those with a distributor/coil-pack setup — newer coil-on-plug engines don't use them. Replace all wires as a set rather than individually; mismatched resistance causes misfires. Pull wires off the plug boot, never the wire itself — cracking the insulation creates high-voltage leaks. Replace spark plugs at the same time for maximum benefit.
