Parking Brake Shoe Replacement Cost & Pricing
Replace the small parking brake shoes that press against the inner drum surface of rear disc brake rotors (drum-in-hat design) or inside dedicated rear drums. Worn shoes reduce holding power on hills and can fail parking brake inspection.
Typical Parking Brake Shoe Replacement cost
$120โ$420, with an average estimate of $240 before vehicle-specific adjustments.
What to expect
Difficulty: moderate. Typical labor time: 1โ2.5 hours.
Mechanic's tip
Many vehicles with rear disc brakes have a small drum machined into the inside of the rotor specifically for the parking brake โ these use tiny shoes that are separate from the main brake pads. These shoes rarely wear out from normal use but seize or corrode from inactivity on vehicles where the parking brake is never used. Rear rotor replacement is typically required at the same time if the inner drum surface is scored or rusted beyond spec. Apply the parking brake regularly to keep the mechanism free.
