Manual Transmission Clutch Replacement Cost & Pricing
Replace the clutch disc, pressure plate, and release bearing (clutch kit) on a manual transmission. A worn clutch slips under load, causes difficulty getting into gear, or produces a burning smell when engaging on hills.
Typical Manual Transmission Clutch Replacement cost
$620–$2,080, with an average estimate of $1,150 before vehicle-specific adjustments.
What to expect
Difficulty: complex. Typical labor time: 4–10 hours.
Mechanic's tip
Always replace the complete clutch kit (disc, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing) together — replacing just the disc and reusing the pressure plate is false economy since the whole transmission comes out anyway. Have the flywheel resurfaced or replaced at the same time; a hot-spotted or scored flywheel will chatter on the new disc. Driving style dramatically affects clutch life — riding the clutch in traffic is the primary cause of premature wear.
