Harmonic Balancer Replacement Cost & Pricing
Replace the harmonic balancer (crankshaft vibration damper) that absorbs torsional vibrations from the crankshaft. A failing balancer causes rough engine vibration, belt misalignment, and can destroy the front crankshaft seal if the outer ring separates.
Typical Harmonic Balancer Replacement cost
$220โ$850, with an average estimate of $450 before vehicle-specific adjustments.
What to expect
Difficulty: moderate. Typical labor time: 1.5โ4 hours.
Mechanic's tip
The rubber bonding between the inner hub and outer ring deteriorates with age โ look for wobble, a visible gap in the rubber layer, or grooves worn into the front crankshaft seal contact surface. A special puller and installer tool is required; hammering a balancer on destroys it and the crankshaft snout. Replace the front crankshaft seal at the same time since both require the same access.
