EGR Valve Replacement Cost & Pricing
Replace a stuck or failed exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve that controls the flow of exhaust gases back into the intake manifold to reduce NOx emissions. Failure causes rough idle, hesitation, increased emissions, or a check engine light (P0400–P0408).
Typical EGR Valve Replacement cost
$150–$600, with an average estimate of $300 before vehicle-specific adjustments.
What to expect
Difficulty: moderate. Typical labor time: 1–3 hours.
Mechanic's tip
EGR valves clog with carbon over time — cleaning with EGR cleaner or carburetor cleaner sometimes restores function without replacement. Have the EGR passages and cooler (on diesel engines) inspected at the same time since clogged passages cause the same symptoms. Don't skip this repair if you need to pass emissions — a failed EGR will fail the test.
