What to expect
Difficulty: easy. Typical labor time: 0.5–2 hours.
Mechanic's tip
Brake fluid is hygroscopic — it absorbs moisture from the air over time, lowering its boiling point and causing a spongy pedal. Many manufacturers recommend a flush every 2–3 years regardless of mileage. This is almost entirely a labor job since fluid is cheap. Always bleed brakes after replacing calipers, hoses, master cylinder, or brake lines.
